Manchester United host Liverpool in the Premier League‘s game of the weekend at Old Trafford.

The result could have big implications on the title race for Liverpool or even the top four battle for United.

As such, the two managers will know their game plan must be spot on and here we look at the key tactics Jurgen Klopp may employ

    SALAH THROUGH THE MIDDLE

Mohamed Salah has often been deployed through the middle this season and may be played in that role again at Old Trafford. The Egyptian has sometimes been neutralised on the right flank like he was in the same fixture last season. Playing in the centre, he’ll have the opportunity to use his acceleration and agility to trouble United’s centre-backs while retaining the freedom to roam across the front line.

Xherdan Shaqiri should then start on the right and his tendency to tuck in could help even out numbers in midfield with United likely to play a diamond. Roberto Firmino will be key as well in a No10 role, picking his moments to drift out to the right and exploit space.

    DOUBLE PIVOT

This isn’t the same United side Liverpool dominated and beat 3-1 in December. The current Red Devils boast a greater threat in attack with forward runners from wide and midfield. To cope with that, a double pivot in midfield away from home may be required. The likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera have proved their effectiveness with runs from deep while Juan Mata’s influence on the break must be curtailed.

Two midfielders sitting deeper would go a long way to tracking runners while also providing a base for the attacking players to operate with freedom and fluid. Fabinho may have to do a job on Pogba. Paris Saint-Germain reaped the rewards when Marquinhos kept the Frenchman relatively quiet in their Champions League win at Old Trafford.
