  • Lampard has led Derby to edge of the Championship play-offs as the Rams eye a Premier League return in his first season in charge.

Frank Lampard believes Dubai’s nanoM sports health assessment clinic is the “way forward for sport” as professional athletes look to manage their bodies better and prevent injury – especially as they enter their twilight years.

Former England and Chelsea star Lampard, now Derby County manager, became an ambassador for the clinic, located at the Golden Mile Galleria on Palm Jumeirah when he officially opened it in November 2017.

The 17,000 square foot facility, part of the Emirates Healthcare Group, houses the latest equipment to analyse health, fitness, functionality and performance capabilities of visiting athletes.

“I quickly realised when I got to 30 I needed to manage my body better to prevent injury,” Lampard said, speaking to Sport360 due to his partnership with nanoM.

“I started working with them about a year ago while I was working in the media. I always had an interest while I was doing my coaching badges in sports science and the fitness side of it.

“So it was a nice thing as an ex-sportsman at the time.

“I think it’s the way forward for sport in terms of proximity of where it is, it’s easy to travel there for top athletes and they have everything there for you. It’s very impressive.”

At nanoM, state-of-the-art technology and equipment are available under one roof. The facility was designed to meet the stringent performance evaluation needs of professional sportsmen and women, as well as federations and government organisations.

The clinic provides professional and amateur athletes in a wide variety of sports – including football, cycling, cricket, golf and running – with customised programmes to improve performance and prolong their careers.

In addition to treating existing injuries and problems, nanoM can also detect potential conditions and issues and prevent the risk of injury.

It is something 40-year-old Lampard – capped 106 times by England and a scorer of 211 goals in 648 games for Chelsea – can relate to even more as he has embarked on a coaching career with Derby, who he has led to seventh in the Championship in his debut season in management.

“It’s a very impressive set-up, it’s certainly helped me in terms of knowledge gained to go over there with all the equipment and meet the people,” said Lampard, who also played for West Ham and Manchester City before ending his playing days with New York City FC in Major League Soccer.

“I came over to Dubai last year and was very impressed with the facilities they have under one roof, including an abundance of technical equipment and expertise. It’s a one-stop shop, which can work for professionals for either injury prevention or rehab from injury.

“But also it can work for people like myself who aren’t a professional anymore but are concerned about your fitness.”
