Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno will leave Liverpool before the start of next season, the European champions announced Tuesday.

The 26-year-old left-back made just four appearances in all competitions last season, starting just two games in the Premier League.

The Spaniard’s departure was confirmed alongside Daniel Sturridge and the pair will have no shortage of suitors.

Moreno arrived at Anfield from Sevilla in August 2014, playing 141 games for the club.

“They were here when I arrived as manager and during that period they – as much as anyone – helped to establish us as a team that would be heading in the right direction,” Klopp added.

“Without them we wouldn’t be the team and club we are in this moment.”

The Reds boss described Moreno as “an unbelievable character” and “world class”, adding the Spaniard “kept the entire group on their toes” with his approach to training.

Klopp added: “I wish both players nothing but success and joy wherever their journey takes them next.

“Whoever has them next will be so lucky to have these outstanding personalities in their ranks.

“We will miss them of course, but we can say farewell with the best words possible: Guys, you leave as European champions.”

One of the potential landing spots for Moreno is Arsenal. Back in October The Mirror reported initial interest in the defender and a pursuit could now be ramped up after his exit was confirmed on Tuesday.

Arsenal boss Unai Emer is an admirer of Moreno having worked closely with him previously at Sevilla, and with the Gunners boss searching for replacements in the full-back slots, and cash strapped after missing out on the Champions League, it’s a move which may make sense for the London side.
