  • An enthralling contest at the Etihad Stadium was brought to a dramatic end when VAR denied Manchester City a stoppage-time winner against Tottenham on Saturday.

Substitute Gabriel Jesus’ late effort was disallowed on review for a handball by Aymeric Laporte, much to the dismay of the hosts.

The Premier League champions absolutely dominated proceedings, attempting a whopping 30 shots to Spurs’ three, yet Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a share of the spoils with a 2-2 draw.

Kevin De Bruyne provided the pass for Raheem Sterling to break the deadlock 20 minutes in and then set up Sergio Aguero after Erik Lamela had cancelled out the Englishman’s strike.

Lucas Moura came off the bench and scored from a corner seconds after taking to the pitch.

Here, we take a closer look at how City’s players fared in the encounter.

    STARTING XI (4-3-3)

Ederson 5 – Excellent with the ball at his feet. Unsighted for the first goal but questions must be raised given Lamela’s shot was far from the corner.

Kyle Walker 6 – Showed great industry and kept Christian Eriksen quiet. Regularly involved in the build-up, tucking into midfield.

Nicolas Otamendi 5 – May have done better to defend both goals. Flicked header at the other end was his best moment.

Aymeric Laporte 6 – Elegant on the ball and never seemed to give it away. Swept up nicely at the back.

Oleksandr Zinchenko 6 – Had a couple of efforts at goal and threatened on the overlap when Sterling drifted inside.

Kevin De Bruyne 9 – A masterful display, creating a host of chances and bagging two assists after a game-high nine key passes. Unlucky not to score.

Rodri 7 – Forced a decent save from Lloris in the second half. Flawless in possession and led the way for tackles.

Ilkay Gundogan 6 – Drifted in and out of the game but threatened with a few penetrative passes in the final third.

Bernardo Silva 7 – Showed remarkable close control and physicality. Linked up brilliantly with De Bruyne on the righ. Wayward with his shots though.

Sergio Aguero 7 – Took his goal superbly, darting ahead of Toby Alderweireld to score from close range. Faded in the second half and was hooked.

Raheem Sterling 7 – Looked like he could’ve been set for another hat-trick in the first half with the runs he made but things didn’t quite click after the opener.

    SUBS

Gabriel Jesus (66′) 6 – Had a couple of half chances before landing the killer blow … or so he thought.

David Silva (78′) N/A – Brought on to create a bit of magic but was denied space with Spurs defending with a low block.

Riyad Mahrez (80′) N/A – Could only give possession away cheaply after his introduction.
