We are well and truly into the festive fixtures now with three Fantasy Premier League gameweeks to take place in the span of a week.

It’s always a tricky period to navigate and following a testing GW18 which recorded an average score of just 38 with Liverpool missing in action and Tottenham assets disappointing [we’re looking at you, Son Heung-min], more slip-ups cannot be afforded.

Given the close proximity of Premier League fixtures, in this week’s column we’ll look at the best picks over the next three GWs from 19 to 21.

Spurs have an opportunity to bounce back from their defeat to Chelsea with fine fixtures of this period, while Manchester City enjoy the same luxury.

Here are a few tips to help guide you through GW19 to 21.

    CAPTAIN FOR GW 19 – DELE ALLI | TOTTENHAM | 8.8M

He’s blanked in the last two games, but Dele Alli is still an interesting captain candidate for GW 19. An appealing run of games for Spurs starts with Brighton at home and given Son’s three-match suspension, Alli should effectively be immune to rotation.

It also means that the onus will be on him to directly contribute to goals and he’s still done that six times in the last six GWs. He also ranks third among midfielders for shots in that time and has attempted five assists in the last four GWs.

Only Aston Villa have conceded more than Brighton’s 16 big chances over the last six GWs.

    CAPTAIN FOR GW 20 – MOHAMED SALAH | LIVERPOOL | 12.2M

Having dropped in value, Mohamed Salah now costs just as much as team-mate Sadio Mane whose price has gone the other way. However, the Egyptian’s ownership is about 15-per-cent less than his colleagues, making him an attractive differential.

It also helps that his form has definitely improved of late with his underlying stats far superior to Mane’s. Salah leads the league for shots inside the box in the last three GWs with 12, despite only featuring in two of those rounds.

He also has three goals and an assist in his last two games, which produced a total of 29 points.

He plays Wolves at Anfield in GW20. This may be the ideal time to hand him the armband.

    CAPTAIN FOR GW 21 – SERGIO AGUERO | MANCHESTER CITY | 11.7M

Another FPL stalwart who is something of a differential at the moment is Sergio Aguero. The striker is back from injury and Pep Guardiola stated that he isn’t ready to start just yet so his ownership still hovers around 10 per cent.

However, GW21 may be the perfect time to put your faith in him.

The Argentine will face Everton at home on that occasion and has historically done well at the Etihad, while he should be back up to speed by then. He’ll be hoping to rediscover his form from the start of the season and Man City will need their talisman to fire over the coming weeks if they are to put pressure on Liverpool at the top.

    ONE TO AVOID

    ANTHONY MARTIAL | MANCHESTER UNITED | 7.7M

With just one attacking return in the last five GWs, Anthony Martial doesn’t justify a spot in your team.

Newcastle United in GW19 at home still represents a good fixture but faith in the Frenchman is dwindling and even if he does score points against the Magpies it’s getting increasingly difficult to back him to do so on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, the likes of James Maddison (7.8m), Willian (7.0m) and Lucas Moura (7.1m) in his price bracket promise so much more, while even cheaper options like Todd Cantwell (4.8m) and Jack Grealish (6.3m) look much better.

    ANGELO OGBONNA | WEST HAM | 4.5M

West Ham are hardly the first team that comes to mind when pondering defensive options, but Angelo Ogbonna has blanked just once in the last five GWs with the Hammers managing to keep two clean sheets over that period.

The centre-back is also proving to be a threat at the other end of the pitch with two goals in that time. West Ham also have relatively decent games coming up as they take on Crystal Palace and Bournemouth either side of a clash with Leicester.
