The two Manchester clubs made it rain goals in Gameweek 22 that produced a healthy average of 57.
Those who backed the Manchester City assets benefited greatly as they won 6-1 at Aston Villa with none other than Sergio Aguero bagging a hat-trick while Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne shone as well. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s brace was the highlight of Manchester United‘s 4-0 triumph over Norwich as far as Fantasy Premier League managers are concerned.
Premier League leaders Liverpool will host the Red Devils in the main clash of GW23 while City will hope to plunder more goals at home to Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere, Leicester City, Chelsea and Tottenham travel to Burnley, Newcastle and Watford respectively while Arsenal host Sheffield United.
Here are a few tips to help guide you through GW23.
CAPTAIN – JAMIE VARDY | LEICESTER CITY | 10.0M
The hottest striker in the Premier League this season has cooled down a little over the winter but with the congested festive fixtures behind us and following the birth of his child, Jamie Vardy should be a Fox in the hunt again.
He looked a little rusty in his first start in three GWs last time around against a much-improved Southampton side but still managed to register an assist. With a vulnerable Burnley outfit to take on next, the league’s leading scorer will be desperate to add to his tally as the chasing pack of Marcus Rashford, Tammy Abraham, et al, closes the gap.
With 17 goals and six FPL assists this term, no other player had managed more attacking returns. He’s blanked just once in his last 12 appearances and with an ownership of over 50 per cent, you almost have to captain him to gain any sort of advantage.

ALTERNATIVES
KEVIN DE BRUYNE (10.7m) has three goals and six assists in the last six GWs. He could’ve enjoyed even more than his two assists against Villa had he not been subbed off with half an hour to play. However, that means he should be pretty fresh for the encounter with Palace whose xGA (expected goals against) suggests that they should’ve conceded nine more goals that their 24 this season.
DANNY INGS (6.8m) was incredibly unlucky again in GW22 to only score the one goal. He only has one double-figure haul this season but he’s playing like a man who’s due a few more.
BOLD CHOICE
TODD CANTWELL (4.9m) loves playing at home. He has 54 points from eight starts at Carrow Road, including three double-figure hauls. Norwich host a weak Bournemouth side this week that’s conceded nine goals without reply in the last three GWs.
ONE TO GET
SERGIO AGUERO | MANCHESTER CITY | 11.8M
The legendary Sergio Aguero was already on our radar but he’s now impossible to ignore after a hat-trick at Villa. He’s averaging an attacking return every 58 minutes and remains a strong differential with an ownership of less that 15 per cent at the time of writing.
Of course there is plenty of value in the strikers department so there’s no need to make drastic changes to bring the Argentine in. However, for those hit by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s suspension, a move to Aguero is an easy decision while City’s strong run of games last.
ONE TO AVOID
DIEGO RICO | BOURNEMOUTH | 4.4M
Diego Rico has been one of the better budget defenders this season but that’s no longer true with Bournemouth’s form falling off a cliff. The full-back has managed to score more than a single point just twice since GW11.
BARGAIN BUY
JACK STEPHENS | SOUTHAMPTON | 4.3M
The 9-0 drubbing by Leicester seems like a distance memory for Southampton now who have two clean sheets in the last five GWs. Jack Stephens has racked up 31 points in that time with a goal and assist and is a real bargain at just 4.3m.
