Gameweek 22 in Fantasy Premier League delivered plenty of points and entertainment with Manchester United trouncing Southampton 9-0, Jesse Lingard starring on his West Ham debut and Liverpool losing back-to-back games at Anfield.

The Reds host leaders Manchester City in the big game of GW23 while United and Tottenham entertain Everton and West Brom respectively.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are on the road to Aston Villa and Chelsea travel to Sheffield United.

Here are a few tips to help guide you through GW23.

    CAPTAIN – BRUNO FERNANDES | MAN UNITED | 11.4M

    Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes registered just one assist as his only return in the previous five GWs, representing his poorest run of form by a distance. However, he still created the odd chance during that spell and finally feasted as United devoured a helpless Southampton side 9-0.

His penalty and pair of assists earned 17 points including bonuses and made him, once again, the highest points-scorer in the game with 162. The Portugal playmaker is likely to kick on when Everton visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

With Liverpool and City going head-to-head, Fernandes’ date with the Toffees seems like the most-appealing contest among the premium assets in the game.

    ALTERNATIVE

JAMES MADDISON (7.3m) is in his element at the moment, pulling the strings for Leicester in attack. He has nine key passes and three assists in the last two GWs.

    BOLD CHOICE

MICHAIL ANTONIO (6.6m) is a man in form and certainly West Ham’s focal point in attack. His two goals and three assists in the last five GWs bodes well for their trip to Fulham.

    ONE TO GET

    OLLIE WATKINS | ASTON VILLA | 6.3M

    Ollie Watkins

Another striker hitting his stride, and the back of the net as a consequence, is Ollie Watkins. Even in defeat to West Ham, he scored to take his tally to three goals in last four games. Only Harry Kane and Patrick Bamford have more shots among strikers [59].

    ONE TO AVOID

    ALEX MCCARTHY | SOUTHAMPTON | 4.6M

    Alex McCarthy

A bruised ego and shot confidence come with the despair of losing 9-0 and Alex McCarthy will be feeling its effects more than most as goalkeeper. One school of thought is that Southampton will proceed with extreme caution and attempt to string a few clean sheets together, but that’s easier said than done when missing three of their first-choice back-four either through injury or suspension.

    BARGAIN BUY

    ADAM WEBSTER | BRIGHTON | 4.4M

    Adam Webster

Brighton on the other hand seem to have no problem racking up the clean sheets at the moment, with the latest coming against the champions in a 1-0 win at Anfield. In fact, that’s four clean sheets on the bounce now for Graham Potter’s side and skipper Adam Webster has been integral to their defensive displays. He’s started all but one game this season, faces a modest Burnley attack and shows great value at just 4.4m. With 13 headed attempts to Lewis Dunk’s 14, he’s perhaps even due a goal.
