Gameweek 27 in Fantasy Premier League proved to be a fairly high-scoring one, yielding an average of 60 points with Man City players in action twice. And while they were put to the sword in the Manchester derby, they came good in the second fixture.
This time around, it’s the north London derby that takes centre stage with Arsenal playing host to Tottenham who are in possession of a new-found prolific attack since its recent implementation of Gareth Bale.
Elsewhere, Manchester United entertain former boss David Moyes and his high-flying West Ham side while Leicester City are at home to rock-bottom Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool travel to Leeds, Fulham and Wolves respectively.
Here are a few tips to help guide you through GW28.
CAPTAIN – HARRY KANE | TOTTENHAM | 11.3M
Generally speaking, a fit Harry Kane is a firing Harry Kane and this season has been in keeping with that. The England striker has dazzled with his threat and intelligence in front of goal in addition to his influential all-round play.
This season has seen him produce phenomenal numbers with 16 goals and 13 assists so far. His devastating partnership with Son Heung-min seemed to cool off after their fierce start to the campaign but the inclusion of Bale in the mix has returned a spark to what was a waning attack.
The dilemma for FPL managers now is whether to back Bale or Son in the Spurs midfield with the Welshman the in-form man but the latter certainly the more reliable in terms of injury and playing time.
The easy way out though is to invest in Kane who remains the focal point. He also has a reputation for delivering the goods in a north London derby, making him a prime candidate for the captaincy this week.
ALTERNATIVE
BRUNO FERNANDES (11.5m) was dropped by several managers ahead of the Manchester derby and promptly racked up his 11th double-figure haul. Now could be the time to capitalise on his lack of ownership or at least the lack of armbands being placed on him ahead of a blank in GW29.
BOLD CHOICE
MASON MOUNT (7.0m) was rested for the game against Everton, only coming on for a 24-minute cameo. A Frank Lampard favourite, Mount has shone under Thomas Tuchel as well and has two double-figure hauls in his last three starts. He’s the main man on set-piece duty, scenarios from which Leeds are widely known to be vulnerable.
ONE TO GET
KEVIN DE BRUYNE | MAN CITY | 11.8M
Getting in arguably the best player in the league is hardly a savvy FPL move but his long spell on the sidelines means that, for a limited time only, Kevin De Bruyne is something of a differential. At the time of writing, his ownership is under 18 per cent though that could change quickly now that he seems to be back in the groove with 14 points vs Southampton.
ONE TO AVOID
MOHAMED SALAH | LIVERPOOL | 12.5M
Dropping the leading goal-scorer in the league seems like madness and in any sane season it would be but this is not any ordinary campaign, Liverpool have the misfortune of serving as ‘Exhibit A’ in that regard. Four blanks in a row for Mohamed Salah simply doesn’t justify his exorbitant price and the champions aren’t even in action in GW29.
BARGAIN BUY
ROBERT SANCHEZ | BRIGHTON | 4.5M
Brighton have made huge improvements in the second half of the season and perhaps haven’t had as many points to their name as they deserve. Their attack is notorious for misfiring but their defence has been relatively solid. Despite blanking in the last three games, Robert Sanchez and his back line have shown enough in the eye test to suggest that they can return to the form that saw them keep five clean sheets in the six games before that.
