  • Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for Wales.

A constant thorn in Russia’s side, the blonde bombshell capped a fine display with a goal and an assist.

On a night when fear and trepidation could have got the best of Wales, Ramsey eased any early fears with a classy finish after a clever run and expertly controlling Joe Allen’s excellent throughball.

He then roamed the midfield with purpose and precision passing, always seeking out the ball and matching this with an insatiable desire to work for his team to thwart any threat of a comeback.

    Ramsey's stats

    • Passing percentage accuracy - 84.
    • Total passes - 69, 11 more than any other player.
    • 99 touches - 25 more than the next highest (Gunter).
    • 6 - Number of key passes by Ramsey.

His probing run and keen eye then teed Bale up for the killer third goal which buried Russia.

Ramsey’s form led Wales to victory and pole position in Group B.
