    DANIEL WATSON – DUBAI REDS

European nights at Anfield are famous worldwide, the fans so often pushing Liverpool over the finish line against the biggest of opponents. Hopefully, Thursday night will be more of the same.

So much was made about the first leg being Klopp’s return to Dortmund but the players and the manager did not let the occasion get to them.  The performance was almost perfect, aside from the soft goal that was conceded – but Liverpool fans would have gladly taken 1-1 before the game. The players were quick out of the blocks and delivered a professional and disciplined performance away from home against the tournament favourites.

Once again on Thursday night, the occasion will be one of good nature and friendship between the two sets of supporters. Dortmund fans have planned a mosaic in tribute to the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster, the anniversary of which falls the following day, while Liverpool fans will thank Dortmund for their continued support. Once the whistle blows though, it is down to business and both teams will do battle again.

Klopp rested a few faces against Stoke, making seven changes, but this may give the boss a selection headache. The main talking point is whether Klopp opts for Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge or both. With Liverpool likely needing to win to go through (who can see 0-0?), fans will be hoping he goes for both from the start.

More importantly, though, will be the defensive pairing of Sakho and Lovren, neither of whom started against Stoke. In Dortmund, they were solid and delivered a performance of the highest quality. The game can be won in the centre of the park with the engine of Emre Can and Joe Allen, who is likely to get the nod in place of the injured Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool went in to the first leg as massive underdogs but now have a very good chance of progressing to the semi finals. Fans will line the streets to welcome the team coach to the ground and will then fill the stadium long before kick-off – culminating of course with a stirring rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. With the twelfth man behind them, it may be enough to see Liverpool over the finish line.

    PREDICTION: Liverpool 3-2 Borussia Dortmund

LIKELY LIVERPOOL XI: Mignolet; Clyne, Sakho, Lovren, Moreno; Milner, Can, Allen; Coutinho; Origi, Sturridge

LIVERPOOL PLAYER TO WATCH: Philippe Coutinho. Our little magician can pull a piece of rabbit out of his hat at any time and he will be central to any success, be it through goals or assists.

DORTMUND PLAYER TO FEAR:  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The man who scores Dortmund’s goals is always a major threat – Liverpool will need Sakho or Lovren to shut him out of the game.

WHERE TO WATCH:  Liverpool fans should join the Dubai Reds in the Goodfellas Bar at the Ramee Rose Hotel, Tecom. We are re-expecting a full house so get down early to soak up the atmosphere.  All Dortmund fans based in Dubai are more than welcome to join us for the game too!

SVEN SCHRANDT – BVB FAN CLUB DUBAI

After an emotional first game in Dortmund that took Liverpool’s coach, as well as the BVB players and fans down memory lane, Jurgen Klopp faces his former club again – this time at Anfield. The supporters still love the man who delivered two Bundesliga titles and took the club to the brink of Champions League glory, but will be hoping to create some unhappy memories for Klopp in the second leg.

The 1-1 draw at the Westfalenstadion was disappointing but Dortmund remain unbeaten in 18 games, and also still have the DFB-Pokal semi-final to come. In the Bundesliga, BVB are in second place, 19 points clear of Hertha Berlin in third. Dortmund rested the likes of Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the derby against Schalke at the weekend, the draw all but ending the title race and showing that Europe is now the priority.

In the first leg against Liverpool, it seemed a number of the players were suffering from a mental block due to the emotion of the occasion, with some suggesting that they “did not even perform 70 percent of our capability”. Now the pressure turns back to Klopp and Liverpool.

The Reds will hopefully this time face the real Borussia, with the recovery of Ilkay Gundogan a huge boost for Thomas Tuchel’s men. Dortmund will go to Anfield with their normal approach – based on possession, compact defence and changes in tempo. To come away with either a win or high scoring draw, Marco Reus and Hendrikh Mhikitarian will of course be key.

    PREDICTION: Liverpool 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

LIKELY DORTMUND XI:  Weidenfeller, Schmelzer, Sokratis, Hummels,  Pisczek, Weigel, Castro, Gundogan, Reus, Mhikitarian, Aubameyang.

DORTMUND PLAYER TO WATCH: Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Has been a creative fulcrum of this BVB side this year with great dribbling skills and a great eye for a pass.

LIVERPOOL PLAYER TO FEAR:  Divock Origi. The Belgian has pace in abundance and his two goals at the weekend means he is confident and therefore dangerous.

WHERE TO WATCH: Together with the Liverpool supporters and a lot of other guests, the BVB Supporters Club Dubai will watch the game at Garden on 8 at the Media One Hotel in Dubai. Kick-off is 23.05 GST.
