A Por La Undecima’ (for the 11th) is the slogan that has been splashed all over Madrid  in recent days. Real Madrid’s 10th European Cup win in 2014 was an obsession – now, two years later, a dream 11th is on the horizon.

Zinedine Zidane has been in confident mood, with his players determined to avoid the ‘fracaso’ (failure) of finishing the season without a trophy. Zizou really has turned things round since taking over from Rafa Benitez and it would be fitting if the Galactico, who won us the Champions League in 2002 with that incredible left-footed volley at Hampden Park, could lead Los Blancos to victory as coach.

On Tuesday it was confirmed that Raphael Varane will sadly miss the final with injury, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness had left us all on the edge of our seats. Expectations are nonetheless high, with fans hoping that Real can reintroduce the hoodoo from which Atletico suffered for more than two decades in the Madrid derby.

Gareth Bale has scored in his last two Cup finals for Real and those two strikes remind me of the song of famous Spanish singer David Bisbal: No hay dos sin tres. Never two without three. Hala Madrid y Nada Mas.

PREDICTION: Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

LIKELY REAL MADRID XI: Navas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Kroos, Casemiro; Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema.

REAL MADRID PLAYER TO WATCH: Gareth Bale. All of the focus has of course been on Ronaldo but Bale has shown time and again that he is a man for the big occasion. The Welshman scored Real’s crucial second goal in the 2014 final against Atletico and will be hungry for more in Milan.

ATLETICO MADRID PLAYER TO FEAR: Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. Real Madrid defenders need to keep an eye on the Belgium midfielder, whose performance in the quarter-final against Barcelona was unforgettable.

FAVOURITE REAL- ATLETICO MOMENT: It has to be the 2014 final of course, I lost my voice for three consecutive days after celebrating Sergio Ramos’ 93rd-minute equalizer!

Atletico are finally ready to make history. It has been a great season that has seen Atleti fight until the end for La Liga and reach a second Champions League final in two years. Against the great enemy Real Madrid, thoughts of course turn to the defeat in Lisbon in 2014 – but the message is not revenge, this is a new chance.

Since the final in Lisbon, there have been a total of 10 matches against Real Madrid, and

Atletico have only lost one. This year has seen a 1-1 draw at the Calderon and at the Bernabeu, Antoine Griezmann’s goal sealed a 1-0 win.

Griezmann is key but coach Diego Simeone has, as is his inimitable way, put his faith in the collective. The team knows what he wants and the players are with him to the death. The final should be another great battle.

The only question over personnel is who will line up next to Diego Godin in central defence, with most people predicting Stefan Savic will be given that honour. He and his team-mates will not be alone in Milan. Thousands of Rojiblancos will be cheering them on, while most neutrals also appear to be backing Simeone and Co.

Everything is ready for the final, hopefully it is now our time. Nunca dejes de creer – Never stop believing.

PREDICTION: Real Madrid 0-2 Atletico Madrid

    LIKELY ATLETICO XI: Oblak; Juanfran, Savic, Godín, Filipe Luis; Gabi, Augusto, Koke, Saúl;

    Griezmann, Fernando Torres.

ATLETICO DE MADRID PLAYER TO WATCH: Antoine Griezmann. In a very tactical team, he is the player who makes the difference. When he plays well, the team plays well. Scored the goal against Bayern that sent Atletico into the final – let’s hope he can score again in Milan!

REAL MADRID PLAYER TO WATCH: Casemiro. Everyone knows about Real’s attacking threats but Casemiro has been influential in bringing balance to their team. He plays with high intensity and will be tasked with nullifying Atletico’s attack.

FAVOURITE ATLETICO-REAL MOMENT: Atletico’s 4-0 victory in the Madrid derby in February 2015 – when we finally threw off all the shackles of history.
