  • Eye on the prize: Ribery finished behind Ronaldo and Messi in the Ballon d'Or.

Bayern Munich’s Franch Ribery has been left confused after Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or ahead of him.

Ronaldo was voted the best player in the world last week, but the French winger appears to be upset after finishing in third place.

Ribery enjoyed the best season of his career last year, helping Bayern Munich win a sensational treble of the Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League.

The 30-year-old also helped his club lift the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this season, while Ronaldo’s Real Madrid team remained trophy-less.

While the Portuguese star’s individual performances cannot be argued, Ronaldo scored 55 goals in 55 games in 2012/13 and has 26 in 31 so far, Ribery feels aggrieved as titles should count for more.

"I won everything, with the team and individually. Ronaldo won nothing," the France international said in an interview with Munich's TZ newspaper.

"I feel I had earned this award. It's all politics.”

Ribery is apparently so upset with the outcome that he no longer harbours any feelings towards the award.

"The Golden Ball doesn't interest me any more.”
