  • The king could be back: Didier Drogba is linked with a return to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

Chelsea fans based in the UAE have admitted they would love to see striker Didier Drogba back the club amid reports talks have begun over a shock return to Stamford Bridge.

According to reports, the Blues have opened discussions with Drogba's representatives that would see the Ivorian return to the club he spent eight years at and won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the 2012 UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be keen to recruit Drogba, who confirmed in May he would leave current club Galatasaray, as a back-up striker who would also take on some coaching responsibilities.

The Blues are keen to further bolster their forward line following the arrival of Spain striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, while doubts remain over the futures of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, and Romelu Lukaku. Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o has already left the club after one season.

And given the hero-status Drogba enjoys at Chelsea, fans in the UAE are understandably excited about the proposition of having 'king' Drogba back at the club.

Mohammed Faisal, an aspiring goalkeeper from the UAE who supports Chelsea, would love this move to materialise.

"It would be as big as Mourinho returning" said the 23-year-old. "The fans will welcome him back with open arms after all he has done for the club."

Whereas Egyptian UAE resident, Khaled Kashawy, 25, doesn't think Drogba would improve Chelsea's attacking options, he says the Ivory Coast forward will always be remembered as a Stamford Bridge legend.

"He is one of the best players in Chelsea's history but we don't want another Samuel Eto'o that is past it," said Kashawy.

However, Scott Carson, a fan based in Dubai, has warned fellow fans not to expect the same Drogba that terrorised defences during his first stint at the club should the 36-year-old return.

"He looked off the pace at the World Cup so I don't feel he will be as effective as he was in his last stint," said Carson.

"His last kick of the ball for Chelsea won us the Champions League in Munich so how can he ever exceed that glory again as a player?"

One thing is for sure, Chelsea fans in the UAE and all around the world will be keeping a close eye on this transfer saga.
