  • Every week we pick 22 of the best performing players in Europe’s top five leagues and, with your help, narrow it down to the best XI.

Using polls on our Instagram stories, we pit players in each position against each other and let you decide who deserves to make the cut.

Three Real Madrid players feature in our XI following their El Clasico victory while three Bayern Munich stars make the cut as well as does the superb Kylian Mbappe.

Here’s what our latest European Team of the Week looks like:

    GK: Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)

He’s really come into his own this season, picking up his 12th clean sheet of the season in El Clasico. He made some brilliant saves to keep Barcelona at bay, stopping Lionel Messi and even thwarting Arthur and Martin Braithwaite in one-on-ones.

    RB: Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid)

Came back from a tough outing against Manchester City and was unbeatable down the outside, keeping Jordi Alba relatively quiet. Made a team-high four tackles and was showed quick-thinking to send Mariano Diaz through on goal for the second with a clever throw-in.

    CB: Jose Martinez (Granada)

A goalless stalemate between Granada and Celta Vigo may have gone under your radar but Jose Matinez’s display for the hosts at Nuevo Los Carmenes deserves recognition. Playing on the left of a back three, the 27-year-old made five clearances, two tackles and three interceptions during a valiant performance that also included a game-high six aerial duels won.

    CB: Kostas Manolas (Napoli)

Popped up with an unstoppable header from a sumptuous Lorenzo Insigne free-kick delivery to make the breakthrough against Torino. The Greek was dominant in the air at the other end too and made some good blocks while showing superb composure on the ball as Napoli dominated possession.

    LB: Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

A 2-2 draw at Bournemouth was hardly a satisfying result for Chelsea’s top-four ambitions but it could’ve been worse but for Alonso’s rescue act. He initially gave Chelsea the lead with a fine volley before heading in a late equaliser off a rebound. He was easily the most attacking player with a game-high seven shots and four key passes.

    RW: Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

Gnabry just can’t keep himself out of our TOTW at the moment. At 24, he’s now a consistent performer, putting Hoffenheim to the sword this time with the opener in a 6-0 mauling. He was unlucky not to bag an assist for his part in Joshua Zirkzee’s goal while he led the way with five key passes and five dribbles.

    CM: Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)

Vinicius Jr stole the headlines and the likes of Casemiro and Fede Valverde caught the eye with some energetic displays in midfield but amid a chaotic encounter, Kroos was flawless. He misplaced just one pass all game, finishing with an accuracy of 98.5 per cent and provided the assist for the opener.

    CM: Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

Passed the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box in a finish his TOTW midfield partner would be mighty pleased with. Sprayed the ball around with seven of his eight long passes finding their targets.

    LW: Philippe Coutinho (Bayern Munich)

It was a confident performance from the Barcelona loanee who bagged a brace, the first a well hit albeit deflected effort and the second a composed finish from inside the area. No one had more than his six attempts at goal during the game.

    ST: Duvan Zapata (Atalanta)

In a clash between Serie’s best attack and worst defence, there was only going to be one winner and Zapata had a field day during the 7-2 win for Atalanta at Lecce. He powered home Josip Illicic’s corner for his first and then steered in two passes across the box to complete his hat-trick.

    ST: Kylian Mbappe (PSG)

A flurry of step-overs followed by a cross from the Frenchman eventually led to the breakthrough for PSG. Ran through and around the keeper to score the second before sliding Mauro Icardi in for the third and sweeping up the fourth. An absolutely dominant performance that featured nine shots, five key passes and four dribbles.
