  • Every week we pick 22 of the best performing players in Europe’s top five leagues and, with your help, narrow it down to the best XI.

Using polls on our Instagram stories, we pit players in each position against each other and let you decide who deserves to make the cut.

A Manchester United defensive duo feature in our XI while three Bayern Munich stars make the cut as well as Kylian Mbappe.

Here’s what our latest European Team of the Week looks like:

    GK: Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

It’s no surprise that arguably the best keeper in the world had another flawless game during Atletico’s 2-0 win at Celta Vigo. He made five saves to claim another clean sheet and a couple of them were outstanding stops to make sure he earned it.

    RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)

Solid at the back and largely kept Newcastle United’s dangerous Allan Saint-Maximin quiet but struggled with his own crossing. Who needs to put in crosses though when you can leather one into the roof of the net like he did for United’s third goal?

    CB: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Hoffenheim’s Ishak Belfodil exposed the German’s lack of pace but Hummels countered that expertly as the game went on by reading play well and making six interceptions in the process. A shaky start turned out to be a decent performance from the centre-back which secured Dortmund’s third clean sheet in four games.

    CB: Harry Maguire (Manchester United)

He’s had a torrid month on and off the pitch but the United skipper silenced critics with an exemplary show of character against Newcastle. Maguire organised the defence well and his passing was on point too. His excellent header from a corner equalised for United and began their comeback for a 4-1 win.

    LB: Jordan Amavi (Marseille)

Marseille’s marauding left-back had a busy outing in a 3-1 victory over Bordeaux at Orange Velodrome. He burst into the box and won a penalty in the first half that Florian Thauvin failed to convert before his looping header from a free-kick found the back of the net in the second.

    CM: Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

The dynamic midfielder wreaked havoc in the final third against Arminia Bielefeld. His four shots and three key passes yielded two goals and an assist. Both goals were products of Muller’s innate ability to drop into pockets of space and pounce on the opportunities that come his way.

    CM: Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich)

He only played 64 minutes but that was sufficient time for Goretzka to make an impact. He led Bayern’s high-press in an energetic display and even won the ball before providing an assist for Robert Lewandowski’s first goal. His importance to Hansi Flick’s side is evident.

    CM: Pablo Sarabia (Paris Saint-Germain)

Kylian Mbappe stole the headlines but Pablo Sarabia was probably the best player on the night. The Argentine pulled the strings in attack during a 4-0 win at Nimes, registering seven key passes, two assists and a goal.

    FW: Timo Werner (Chelsea)

Finally got the monkey off his back by opening his Premier League account with a brace against Southampton. His first was a superb solo effort, pulling off a great turn before shifting the ball across a line of defenders and firing it into the back of the net. He showed great composure for his second and even provided Kai Havertz with an assist.

    FW: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

The world’s best striker continues to prove he fully warranted this year’s Ballon d’Or. He was involved in all four goals against Arminia Bielefeld. A deflected effort and a low driven shot bagged him a brace while he assisted Muller and also hit the woodwork.

    FW: Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)

Two goals and two outstanding finishes. It’s hard to believe Mbappe is still only 21 when he scores goals like he’s been doing it for 10 years at the highest level. Showed superb composure for both finishes, ensuring Real Madrid will have to break the bank when they eventually sign him.
