  • Platini (l) and Infantino.

Germany’s joint interim FA chief Rainer Koch insisted that his country’s FA will continue to support European candidates in the FIFA presidency race, whether Michel Platini or Gianni Infantino are put forward by UEFA.

Platini is currently being investigated by the FIFA ethics committee and could face a ban from the sport if found guilty.

The Election Committee stated that Platini will not be considered in the FIFA presidency race until he is proven innocent in the ongoing investigations.

In 2011 Platini received a sum of $2m from FIFA President Sepp Blatter, which is being investigated for its legality.

Either way, Koch has stated that the German FA will back a UEFA candidate.

“The German FA will be patient and stay behind Michel no matter what,” Koch told Sport360.

“Our stand is firm and we want a European candidate to claim the FIFA presidency.”

Koch took over Aater Wolfgang Niersbach’s resignation on Monday over a World Cup 2006 scandal involving a multi-million dollar payment to football’s governing body FIFA a year ahead of the finals.
