  • Manchester United are the most valuable football club according to Forbes.

Manchester United are still the kings when it comes to brand worth despite their recent dry spell in the Premier League after the club was named as the most valuable football club according to Forbes magazine.

In the recently released Forbes Fab 40 which underlines the top 40 most valuable brands in the world of sports, United were placed at the fourth spot, ahead of Barcelona in the fifth.

The Forbes Fab 40 determines the value of the top brands in sports by quantifying the amount by which the name contributes to the value of the athlete, business, event or team. Business brand values are the amount the enterprise value of the sports business exceeds the average enterprise value of comparable businesses.

United’s value was estimated at £425m while that of Barcelona was determined at £405m.

The top 10 list was dominated by the United States with seven of its sporting brands finding a place.
