  • Julian Draxler is ready for the battle with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for a place in the Paris St Germain team.

The Germany winger moved to the French capital in January but this summer saw his club smash the world record transfer fee to sign Neymar from Barcelona before Monaco sensation Mbappe arrived on an initial loan deal on deadline day.

Draxler has made just two brief substitute appearances for his club this season and is likely to be on the bench again when Ligue 1 resumes on Friday after the international break.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Arsenal towards the end of August but he decided to stay and fight for his place.

And he sent a reminder to PSG boss Unai Emery of what he can do by scoring in Germany’s 6-0 rout of Norway on Monday.

After the game Draxler said in quotes reported by Bild: “I sent a signal to Paris that I can be reckoned with.

“For me, leaving was not an issue. As far as I know, it was not an issue for Paris either. I did not want to leave the club because I wanted to compete.

“I’m delighted to play with such footballers in a team. It’s normal to have such a competition in the top five teams in Europe. This is exactly the same with Bayern Munich.

“I have no special status in the team, but I have to fight for my stakes. And I will do that.”
