  • He may have acquired the services of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid – but it is Barcelona Juventus coach Max Allegri is wary of in this season’s Champions League.

Ronaldo was part of the Los Blancos side that won the last three Champions League titles in a row, but he could be denied his fourth by Barcelona, according to new boss Allegri.

Juventus have suffered heartache in Europe in recent years, reaching the finals in 2015 and 2017 only to be denied by Barca and Real respectively.

One of the reasons Ronaldo was signed was to try and bring the Champions League crown to Turin for the first time since 1996.

But Allegri knows Barca, led by Lionel Messi, could prove a major hurdle in their quest for success on the continent.

“The Champions League? To improve on what we’ve done so far there’s only one to do, win it,” Allegri said.

“But we need to be careful of Barcelona, they’re a strong contender and they can go deep. This is a competition that changes in March: at that point, we’ll need some luck and a healthy squad.”
