  • Former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri intends to take a year’s sabbatical from football.

The 51-year-old left Juve at the end of the season after guiding the Bianconeri to five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies and twice into the Champions League final.

Allegri had been linked with a potential move to Chelsea – should his compatriot Maurizio Sarri leave Stamford Bridge this summer – but he plans to reconnect with his family before returning to management.

Quoted in La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said: “I will take a year out because I have to reclaim my private life. These last 16 years have felt like being in a centrifuge.

“I have let family matters get away from me… my children and my friends.

“This year will let me recharge with a view to coming back for the following campaign.”
