  • Atletico Madrid leapfrogged rivals Real Madrid to move level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona after a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao.

Saul Niguez gave the hosts the half-time advantage at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium before Alvaro Morata, on loan from Chelsea, struck after the break to seal the three points.

It was Atletico’s first league success since winning by the same scoreline at Mallorca on September 25 but Diego Simeone’s side went a point ahead of Real and are only behind Barcelona on goal difference.

Barca and Real have both played a game fewer and do not play this weekend because their El Clasico clash was postponed until December.

Elsewhere, Leganes got their first win of the season at the 10th time of asking. Martin Braithwaite’s first-half goal gave Los Pepineros a 1-0 home victory against Mallorca and lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Real Valladolid won at home for the first time this campaign, defeating Eibar 2-0. Sergio Guardiola Navarro and Mohammed Salisu were on target for the hosts.
