Former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has hailed the influence Lionel Messi had on Barcelona’s recent trophy-laden run.
Alves, 35, won more than 20 club trophies alongside the Argentina icon at Camp Nou prior to his switch to Juventus in June 2016.
The current Paris Saint-Germain defender has been talking about their time together in Spain.
Watch him discuss Messi below:
Lionel Messi will only fulfil a watching brief at Inter Milan in midweek after Barcelona chose not to select their recovering superstar in the playing squad.
Hopes had been raised about an imminent return when Barca announced on Sunday that the 31-year-old would head to Italy, but this was without “the medical all-clear” in regards to his fractured arm. Of the 21 players then announced as available in the early hours of Monday morning, the record goal scorer did not feature.
Messi picked up the injury during a match against Sevilla at Camp Nou on October 20 and has missed four games, including the 5-1 thrashing of El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.
He only returned to training on Wednesday and did not feature in Saturday’s 3-2 La Liga victory at Rayo Vallecano.
Barca currently top Group B ahead of Wednesday’s clash at San Siro.
Lionel Messi could be in line to return from a broken arm after being named in Barcelona’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Inter Milan.
The Barcelona captain has been sidelined with a fractured radial bone in his right arm after falling awkwardly in the 4-2 victory against Sevilla on October 20.
As a result, the Argentina international missed last week’s 5-1 El Clasico victory against Real Madrid, but he may not be risked as he “travels without medical all-clear”, according to the club’s official Twitter account.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have won all four matches in Messi’s absence.
