  • Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be dipping into the transfer market to resolve his defensive problems.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (foot), Joel Matip (collarbone), Joe Gomez (fractured leg) are all out for up to five weeks, leaving Klopp with just two fit centre-backs and Nathaniel Clyne, who has played just 90 minutes this season.

However, the Reds boss had previously said he was not planning to make any additions in January and even with his current injuries he is not likely to change that outlook.

“Our situation is like this: if you would have asked me two weeks before if we were doing anything in the transfer window I would have said ‘Probably not’,” he said.

“Now we have two centre-halves left. Will we do something? Not really likely because they are not out for (long).”
