  • Liverpool may have an aura of invincibility about them at the moment, but Andy Robertson says they have to win the Premier League to cement their place among football’s finest.

The Reds visit second-placed Manchester City on Thursday (00:00 +1 UAE) in buoyant mood on the back of a 20-match unbeaten league run and seven-point lead at the top.

It has sparked hope and belief they can be the next top-flight ‘Invincibles’ and go through the campaign without defeat.

Robertson says success is what matters most even if teams now fear the Reds, just as they did City and other great title-winning teams of the past. A seven-match winning league streak has included 14 goals in four games, including 4-0 and 5-1 successive home victories over Newcastle and Arsenal.

“If people are worrying coming here then it’s a good sign for us,” he said. “Of course that’s what we want. But it’s up to us to continue that.

“We spoke about City last season and I’m sure every other team did. They were very hard to beat.

“Of course we did it here in the league and the Champions League, but in the league, not many people could touch them. But the thing is, they completed it and they’ve got their winners’ medal and the trophy.

“Just now, we have nothing and that’s why at the end of the season, hopefully we can talk about it.

“I think there is pressure always playing for this club. Fans demand it and we demand it so in terms of different pressures, we are top of the league and we need to keep on going.

“Of course we hope that we win it (the title), but we know how hard it is and we know two teams, probably even more, are right behind us and causing us all sorts of problems.

“We know they’ll be right on our tails, so we keep our feet on the ground.”
