  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s phenomenal start at Manchester United continued with a 2-1 win over Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Norwegian became the first United manager to win his first seven games in charge as Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet.

Pascal Gross’ goal in the 72nd minute made for a difficult end to the game for the Red Devils but it wasn’t enough to deny them all three points.

Here, we rate the performances of the United players.

    STARTING XI (4-2-3-1)

David De Gea – Commanded his area and never really had a save to make while there was nothing he could do to deny Pascal Gross. 6

Ashley Young – Pushed up the field well and got involved in attack. Threatened with his dangerous delivery. 7

Victor Lindelof – Growing in stature with every game. Solid at the back and his ball to send Anthony Martial through on goal in the first half was sublime. 7

Phil Jones – Impressive in defence but may have done better to defend the cross in for Gross’ goal. 6

Diogo Dalot – Questions over his marking for the goal but excellent going forward despite playing out of position. Picked up an assist. 6

Ander Herrera – Covered a lot of ground and was tidy with his passing but didn’t offer enough in attack. 6

Nemanja Matic – Assured on the ball and anchored the midfield expertly, playing a game-high 98 passes. 7

Paul Pogba – How he popped up on the right wing to win the penalty was indicative of his licence to roam under Solskjaer. Bossed proceedings in the final third, went close with a bicycle-kick and dispatched his penalty superbly. 8

Jesse Lingard – Drifted in at will and really should’ve scored from Rashford’s cross which would’ve made it a far more comfortable final 20 minutes for his side. 5

Anthony Martial – Went close with a brilliant effort from the edge of the box and was a constant threat from wide. 6

Marcus Rashford – Became the youngest United player to score in four consecutive games as his hot streak continues. The goal itself was different class, curling it beyond David Button from an impossible angle. 8
