  • United beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Manchester United recovered from their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by beating Chelsea 2-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Ander Herrera opened the scoring in the 31st minute of their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Monday night as he headed home a fine cross at the far post from Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman then got on the score sheet himself on the stroke of half-time with Marcus Rashford whipping in the delivering for him to nod past Kepa Arrizzabalaga.

Chelsea were unable to threaten United’s goal sufficiently and suffered another setback as the pressure piles on manager Maurizio Sarri.

Here, we rate the United players.

    STARTING XI (4-3-1-2)

Sergio Romero 7 – Reliable again as he made a couple of smart saves and was flawless. Held on well to an effort from Pedro. 7

Ashley Young 6 – Booked for a late challenge on Pedro but kept Eden Hazard under wraps for the most part and covered his side well. 6

Chris Smalling 6 – Had an early chance with a header that was straight at the keeper. Read the game well and made interceptions. 6

Victor Lindelof 6 – Calm and composed at the back. Helped Luke Shaw down his side and never put a foot wrong. 6

Luke Shaw 7 – With Pogba and Romelu Lukaku not as enthusiastic with their defensive work as Herrera and Rashford on the other side, Shaw had plenty of work to do and coped well.

Ander Herrera 8 – Fantastic in midfield, making several tackles and interceptions. Ghosted into the box to head home the opener.

Nemanja Matic 5 – Set up Smalling early on for a chance. Booked for a tackle on Hazard and was walking a tight rope until his substitution.

Paul Pogba 8 – United’s driving force again, beating his man well before crossing for the opener. Started and finished the move for the second.

Juan Mata 5 – Involved in some good play back at his old stomping ground but wasn’t very effective.

Marcus Rashford 7 – His relentless running put the Chelsea defence under pressure and helped cope with Hazard. Great work and cross for the second.

Romelu Lukaku 6 – Worked hard and created a couple of chances. Blazed a volley over early on.

    SUBS

Alexis Sanchez (73′) 5 – Attempted a difficult through ball that nearly paid off.

Andreas Pereira (76′) N/A – Showed great energy when introduced.

Scott McTominay (90’+3′) N/A – Came on for the final moments.
