  • A former director of Barcelona has warned that the club will be compromising themselves both on and off the pitch by re-signing Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.

There appeared to be a breakthrough in protracted negotiations over the Brazilian on Tuesday, as representatives from both clubs met in Paris.

Though no agreement was finalised, multiple reports suggest that both parties are closer to finding common ground.

A move would mean the reboot of the famous ‘MSN’ connection of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, in addition to France forward Antoine Griezmann – who joined the club in a 120m move over the summer – and his compatriot Ousmane Dembele.

But ‘dumbfounded’ ex-Barca director Toni Freixa,  a past presidential candidate in club elections, believes this is no cause to rejoice.

He claims that the sums required to bring back Neymar, as well as the existing players he would push into the margins, makes the move a potential disaster.

“What we’re closer to doing is jeopardising the sports project and economic stability,” Freixa said to Radio Marca.

“I don’t understand what interests are at stake, but those of Barcelona surely aren’t.

“I’m dumbfounded by all of this. I don’t understand anything. I hope it’s a lie.”
