  • Real Madrid players celebrate Karim Benzema's goal

Real Madrid bundled their way through to the Champions League Final with a nervy 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu, with the reigning champions grateful to goalkeeper Keylor Navas for some outstanding saves to preserve their dreams of winning the trophy three years in a row.

It was a frantic and at times bizarrely open game, with both teams showing an utter disregard for collective structure, and Bayern will feel they should have gone through after wasting several clearcut chances in both legs.

With performances like this it’s difficult to see how Madrid have managed to advance as far as the final, but they have made it now and considering their ability to play badly but still escape unscathed they will be very confident of their chances of being crowned champions again.

Here are the Real Madrid ratings from the Bernabeu.

Navas 9. Made some very important saves, including two astonishing stops from Alaba and Tolisso.

Vazquez 5. Unfamiliar right-back role and struggled to contain the measured attacks of Alaba.

Varane 5. Some nervy touches and never looked comfortable, clearly playing with an injury.

Ramos 7. Failed to cut out the cross for the opening goal but recovered to give a captain’s display.

Marcelo 6. Great cross for Benzema’s first but some very wayward touches and defensively suspect.

Modric 5. Smooth on the ball but struggled defensively, and played too wide for his liking.

Kovacic 4. Surprise midfield selection and couldn’t influence the action either in defence or attack.

Kroos 6. The strongest of Madrid’s midfield, but that’s not saying much.

Asensio 5. A few bright attacking moments down the left but his impact was irregular.

Benzema 7. Scored a crucial header to level, grabbed another later and linked play well.

Ronaldo 4. One dangerous snapshot just before the break but otherwise extremely quiet.
