  • Real Madrid have reportedly joined the race to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles, with Theo Hernandez set to leave the Bernabeu.

According to a report from Portuguese paper Record, Los Blancos are keen for a more reliable relief left-back for Brazilian first-choice Marcelo, and former Inter Milan man Telles has apparently become a target.

Telles, 25, is also wanted by Juventus, PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool. The Brazilian is a full-back with attacking and playmaking qualities that would make him a valuable asset.

It was thought Juve were lining up the €40 million-rated defender as a potential replacement for Alex Sandro, who is a target for Manchester United and PSG.

Madrid are said to be keen to send Hernandez out on loan or even sell after a disappointing debut season for the young defender.

Hernandez completed his signing a year ago after a magnificent season for Alaves. However, his performances were poor and Real are seeking a more reliable back-up for veteran Marcelo, 30.

That’s where Telles fits in. Marcelo would still be the undisputed starter on the left flank but his compatriot has the experience and composure to play there when needed.

Record added that the two clubs discussed a deal for the defender on Monday.

If Madrid decide to let Hernandez go, they could include a buy-back clause given that he’s only 20 and still has the potential to blossom into a fine player.
