  • Cristiano Ronaldo may have departed the Bernabeu with the club’s record number of goals, but Dani Carvajal insists Spain legend Raul is the real King of Real Madrid.

New Juventus star Ronaldo finished his nine-year spell with Real having plundered 450 goals while Raul, the one-club legend who left in 2010, managed 323 across 741 appearances.

Los Blancos fans hold Raul especially dear to their hearts as he came through their youth system and hit the ground running when he was just a teenager.

And right-back Carvajal, himself a youth product at the Bernabeu, insists Raul and not Ronaldo is the true historic figure associated with the club.

Asked who he saw as the best ever to play for Madrid, Carvajal said: “Raul. I identify with him a lot.

“He is a squad player, a player who won everything based on work and effort.

“I think it’s not the player that you say, ‘He’s the fastest, he’s the one who has the best control of the ball, the one who better heads-up’.

“But he did everything right. For the goals he has done, for what he has given Real Madrid, for me – he is the flagship player of Real Madrid.”
