Real Madrid midfielder Isco has been ruled out of the Madrid derby after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
The reigning Champions League winners did not put a timescale on the 26-year-old’s recovery, but he will definitely miss Saturday’s clash with arch rivals Atletico following surgery on Tuesday afternoon.
The former Malaga man is expected to be out for around four weeks and is also a doubt for next month’s El Clasico with Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Isco has been a mainstay in Los Blancos’ team since Julen Lopetegui replaced Zinedine Zidane as head coach in the summer, featuring in each of the seven matches in all competitions and has scored two goals in the process.
Lopetegui, speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s La Liga clash at Sevilla, said: “He had pain this morning and has to have an operation. Hopefully everything goes well and he recovers as soon as possible.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and we’ll think about the solutions and those who can play because we have the utmost confidence in them.
“He’s about to undergo surgery and we hope he returns as soon as possible to full fitness.”
AC Milan and Italy great Paolo Maldini has lauded praise on Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos, labelling the Los Blancos captain as “the best defender in the world” currently.
Maldini knows a thing or two about defending, having spent 25 seasons with the San Siro giants – clocking up over 900 appearances in the process.
Indeed, the cult hero is regarded as one of the greatest-ever stoppers at the back but believes 32-year-old Ramos is up there in the same category given his stellar career at the Bernabeu.
Watch what Maldini had to say in the video below as he attended FIFA’s ‘The Best’ awards in London earlier this week.
Opened in December 2013 in Funchal, Madeira – Ronaldo’s hometown – the museum houses a prestigious collection of the 33-year-old’s footballing memorabilia.
And on Tuesday, the museum’s official Instagram page posted a message, saying: “these trophies cannot be robbed, there is an alarm.”
It is not known if the post was in response to an incident or just a light hearted piece of social media.
The Museu CR7 is a museum that is dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo’s trophies. It is located in Funchal, Madeira. Above the museum is a hotel built in a partnership between Ronaldo and Pestana Group.
