Real Madrid’s problems have been compounded as centre-back Raphael Varane is set to miss up to a month with a leg injury, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The Frenchman was forced off the field at half-time of Real’s 5-1 defeat El Clasico to Barcelona on Sunday.

“He’s been diagnosed with a groin injury to his right leg,” a club statement read without mentioning an expected time frame.

AS claim he is ruled out for up to a month. That suggests he would miss France’s games in November against the Netherlands and possibly Uruguay.

For Madrid, that means Varane would be out of action for their next four fixtures, starting with the Copa del Rey clash with Melilla on Wednesday.

Saturday’s La Liga match against Valladolid follows that before a trip to Victoria Plzen in the Champions League. He will also miss the game with Celta Vigo after that.

Mariano Diaz is also injured for Los Blancoswith AS reporting he will be out for 10 days.
