  • Real Madrid showed great character as they secured a 4-2 win away to Celta Vigo in La Liga.

With three injuries during the course of the game, Santiago Solari had to shuffle his already depleted pack in order to see out the result.

Karim Benzema scored the opener with a fine touch and finish in the first half before forcing an own goal off Gustavo Cabral early in the second.

The hosts pulled one back via a fine move that was finished off by right-back Hugo Mallo.

However, Sergio Ramos converted from the spot to make it 3-1 and then Dani Ceballos scored from range before Brais Mendez got Vigo’s second via a deflection.

    Here, we rate Madrid’s players.

    STARTING XI

Thibaut Courtois – Made one excellent save to deny Aspas with the tie finely poised at 2-1 to the visitors. Poor with his distribution. 6

Alvaro Odriozola – Got forward at every opportunity and created chances. Was solid at the back. Won the penalty. 7

Nacho – Didn’t put a foot wrong in defence. Cleared his lines and made a good block. Had to go off injured. 6

Sergio Ramos – Ice running through his veins as he scored with his third ‘Panenka’ penalty of the season. Led the defence well. 8

Sergio Reguilon – Was having a decent game apart from one clumsy challenge before he was injured just before the break. 5

Luka Modric – Played a great ball over the top for Benzema to score the opener. Ran the show in midfield, finishing with the most passes. 7

Casemiro – Went off injured in the 19th minute. N/A

Toni Kroos – Ever so elegant on the ball as directed Madrid’s play in the first half. 6

Gareth Bale – Not one of his better performances. Didn’t do much of note and his final ball was lacking. 4

Lucas Vazquez – Lost the ball a few times but created chances with his balls in. Did well when moved to left-back. 6

Karim Benzema – His opener was pure class and encapsulated what he’s all about while his footwork for Madrid’s second was sensational. Hit the woodwork on one occasion as well. His best performance in some time. 9

    SUBS

Dani Ceballos – Wasn’t great defensively as the anchorman but passed the ball well and scored a screamer. 7

Javi Sanchez – Unfortunate to pick up a booking. Made a couple of great tackles. Calm under pressure. 6

Marco Asensio – Tracked back well and didn’t get up to much else in the final 20 minutes. 5
