Real Madrid are set to be without Casemiro and Nacho Fernandez for the foreseeable future after both picked up injuries during Sunday’s win over Celta Vigo.

Midfielder Casemiro was replaced 19 minutes into the 4-2 win at Balaidos, while defender Nacho was substituted midway through the second half.

The two players underwent tests on Monday morning, with Madrid confirming Casemiro had suffered a sprained right ankle and Nacho a “dislocation of the internal collateral ligament of the right knee”.

The European champions did not say how long either player is expected to be absent for, but reports in Spain suggest defender Nacho could be sidelined for around two months and midfielder Casemiro for up to four weeks.

That could see Spain international Nacho miss more than a dozen matches, including next month’s FIFA Club World Cup, while Brazil midfielder Casemiro could sit out clashes against the likes of Roma, Valencia and CSKA Moscow.

Madrid’s win over Celta was their fourth victory on the trot under interim coach Santiago Solari and left them sixth in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona.
