Despite undergoing a tough phase in the league, Real Madrid are still the favourites to win the Champions League according to midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The former Betis man had his minutes cut under Zinedine Zidane but under Santiago Solari, he has featured 19 times already.

The 22-year-old believes that injuries are responsible for Madrid’s poor show.

“We have had many injuries and that has made it very difficult to maintain a regularity in performance level,” Ceballos told ABC.

“But Real Madrid are a club with a competitive DNA that I do not think is evident in any other team.

“There are people saying that we are not a candidate to win the Champions League but that is a lie, Real Madrid are always the favourite.”

Ceballos has started in seven league games under Solari and maintained that he is happy at the club.

“My run of games? It is not a question of whether I start matches or not, but I want to give my everything to this club and make the position my own, but yes I am happy at Real Madrid,” he added.

“Santiago Solari? There are not coaches who are better or worse, there are coaches who are different, but he has trusted in me and I like working under him.

“Real Betis? Everyone knows I have an emotional connection with the club but I’m very happy at Real Madrid.”
