  • Real Madrid’s new signing Thibaut Courtois won his first trophy with Los Blancos after their 4-1 victory over Al Ain in the Club World Cup final.

The Belgian has now established himself as the first-choice keeper for the Spanish giants ahead of Keylor Navas.

However, the former Chelsea netminder believes there is nothing but healthy competition between himself and the Costa Rican.

“I respect him a lot, like the other players here who have won three Champions Leagues,” Courtois said after the match.

“It’s never nice to be on the bench, I guess for him it’s the same, but I see him working well.

“There isn’t a bad relationship, all the goalkeepers train hard.”

“When you play on Wednesdays and Saturdays then it’s beneficial for a goalkeeper,” he said.

“It’s the coach’s decision and he’s the one who chooses.

“I was playing well before and making good saves, but you lose 3-0 and people tell you that you conceded goals.

“I felt good here from the first day.”
