  • Real Madrid were ravishing as they roared to a 5-0 win against relegation-threatened Leganes.

Usually so stubborn in getting going in games, Real had the points sealed with a quarter of the game gone as they breezed into a 3-0 lead.

Karim Benzema was the architect of the first two, starting the move which saw Rodrygo open the scoring, laying on a perfect cross for the youngster. He then terrorised the defence with deft footwork before centering for Toni Kroos who flicked home.

Eden Hazard then won a penalty and even though Juan Soriano pushed away Sergio Ramos’ tame effort, the goalkeeper was harshly adjudged to have stepped off his line and the veteran tucked his retaken effort inside the opposite post.

It was a cruise for the hosts who added a fourth in the second half when substitute Luka Modric earned their second penalty, tucked away by the brilliant Benzema. Luka Jovic had the final say when he nodded in a fifth.

Here’s how the home players rated:

Thibaut Courtois 6: Fingertip save prevented bottom side from getting a foothold in the first half. A very uneventful evening otherwise for the Belgian.

Daniel Carvajal 5: A quiet night for the Leganes native who was solid if unspectacular against the town of his birth. Two interceptions was second most for Real, four key passes led them.

Raphael Varane 6: Sliced a couple of attempted clearances and caught out of position a few times, but commanding in air with six aerials won.

Sergio Ramos 5: Lucky to get second bite after poor penalty was saved. Made no mistake with second chance. A little erratic like the man alongside him, charging out of defence, often to little effect.

Marcelo 7: Got forward to support the attack and arching cross that Benzema cut back for Rodrygo was delightful. Stung Soriano’s palms with a late rocket.

Casemiro 8: Known for industry rather than invention but his outside of the boot ball to Hazard which yielded a penalty was ingenious. Won a mind-boggling 10 tackles.

Toni Kroos 7: Not sure the flick for his goal was totally authentic but good movement got him ahead of defender. Calm and crisp on the ball and with his distribution – 94.2 per cent accuracy what we’ve come to expect.

Federico Valverde 6: Kept possession neatly as he calmly patrolled midfield with Casemiro offering his muscle. Growing in stature all the time.

Rodrygo 7: In the right place at the right time to score first Real goal, though he almost shanked it. Should have scored a second but blazed over. Led side with four interceptions.

Karim Benzema 9: His fortitude forged the opening goal, then put the ball on a plate for Rodrygo to prod in. Brilliant again for the second, picking out Kroos to clip in. Stylishly stroked in number for form the spot. A terror.

Eden Hazard 8: Buzzed around with intent and won the penalty, though his first touch was horrendous and almost killed the move. Two key passes. Starting to get near the Hazard we know and love.

    SUBS:

Luka Modric 6: Tricked his way past the last man who clumsily felled him to win the penalty that made it 4-0.

Luka Jovic 7: It looked like it would be another frustrating night for the Serb, who saw his headed goal rightly ruled out for offside before he nodded in at the death.

Isco 5: Looked lively when he came on as he looked to get in on the act against struggling side, but little impact.
