Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin last night reacted angrily to claims by chairman Ralph Krueger that he will not be sold this summer.
With former manager Mauricio Pochettino believed to be interested in Schneiderlin and forward Jay Rodriguez joining him at Tottenham, Krueger declared neither will be permitted to leave the club.
However, within hours Schneiderlin tweeted on his personal Twitter account: “Six years on an amazing journey #saintsfc destroyed in one hour.”
It was also pointed out that Schneiderlin then stopped following Southampton’s own official account on the social media site.
So far this transfer window, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren have moved to Liverpool while Luke Shaw has signed for Manchester United and Arsenal have taken Calum Chambers to the Emirates Stadium, with Southampton pocketing almost £100m (Dh622m) for the combined deals.
But Krueger, amid pressure from Saints supporters to speak up, said: “Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin are not for sale and they will be a part of our club as we enter the new season.
“With the exception of Shaw, all of the players who have left the club have moved to sides which will be competing in the Champions League next season.
“We entered the transfer window with a plan. We have a clear strategic approach to this summer and we did not put any players up for sale.”
