JURGEN KLOPP vetoed centre-backs DAVINSON SANCHEZ and KALIDOU KOULIBALY as he focused on an ultimately doomed bid to take on VIRGIL VAN DIJK over the summer, says The Sun reporting claims in Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Sanchez, Tottenham’s £42 million Colombian international, was the first to be snubbed, while Napoli’s Koulibaly, who plays for Senegal, was offered to the Kop for £57m – less than the German manager wanted to pay for Van Dijk.

Southampton rejected a deal for their £65million-rated centre-back.

Manchester United are primed to snap up the Gunners’ attacking midfielder MESUT OZIL when his contract is up at the end of the season, The Independent reports.

Jose Mourinho is said to be highly confident he will be able to woo him by playing on their previous working relationship at Real Madrid.

The newspaper says talks to keep the German international, 28, with the Gunners are at an impasse and he has shown no real willingness to remain at the club.

Former Manchester United manager LOUIS VAN GAAL is tipped to return to Bayern Munich to replace CARLO ANCELOTTI, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Dutchman, who was dropped by United days after they won the 2015-16 FA Cup, could take over at the Bundesliga club until the end of the season when Hoffenheim coach JULIAN NAGELSMANN would take over.

Van Gaal managed Bayern between 2009 and 2011 before a stint as Holland boss.

CRISTIANO RONALDO has explained why he left Manchester United for Real Madrid.

In an interview with former team mate Rio Ferdinand for Nike, the Portuguese star said: “I just thought in my mind ‘I want to go there to show my level, to show that I’m a different player’ and this is what I did.”

Now 32, Ronaldo was 18 years old when he joined the Red Devils in 2003. He transferred to Real in 2009 for £80 million, a world record fee at the time.

The transfer window may not open again until January 1 2018 but that hasn’t put an end to plenty of speculation throughout Europe.

Here, we take a look at the big stories dominating the headlines on Wednesday.

HARRY KANE

Real Madrid are considering a summer bid of £177m for Tottenham star Harry Kane, according to the Express.

Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is understood to be a keen admirer of Kane, but even a £177 million approach would be difficult to turn down by Spurs.

The 23-year-old clinched the Golden Boot for the second straight season last term with 29 Premier League goals, holding off Romelu Lukaku by four strikes.

The England star has continued his impressive form this season, scoring 13 goals in eight matches for club and country in September.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

It is unlikely the 23-year-old will leave the Wembley Stadium any time soon, however, if a significant Real Madrid bid is to be submitted it may be difficult for Daniel Levy not to cash in on the club’s prized asset.

With Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema unsure of their futures at the Bernabeau, Florentino Perez will do everything in his power to assemble the best strike force in the world again.

ALEX SANDRO

Chelsea are ready to renew their interest in Juventus defender Alex Sandro, according to the Mirror.

The Blues missed out on the Brazilian during the summer but he is yet to sign fresh terms in Turin.

The 26-year-old would become the club’s record signing at £60 million if he is to put pen to paper on a deal at Stamford Bridge.

Sandro, who has three years left on his current deal at Juventus, is considered a vital cog in Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

He was impressive during Juve’s treble winning campaign last term, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 43 appearances.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

Given that Antonio Conte used to work with the player and more importantly, as wing-back, there’s every chance that he’d want to bring him to England.

However, Marcos Alonso has been a revelation on the left side and the quoted price is a bit steep for someone who is guaranteed a starting berth.

It would make sense for Conte to draft in a defender for a cheaper cost, but with the ludicrous price of some players in the summer transfer window so far, anything seems possible.

DAEL FRY

Chelsea and Manchester United are monitoring Middlesbrough’s high-rated defender Dael Fry, according to Teamtalk .

The 20-year-old has cemented his place in the starting line-up this season and has caught the eye of leading Premier League clubs after a series of outstanding displays.

RATING: 4/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

Fry is clearly one of the most talented youngsters in England.

Although a move to the Premier League may happen at some point in the future should he continue to improve, it would suit the 20-year-old better to stay at the Riverside for another season to further his development – especially with first team action guaranteed.

MESUT OZIL

Manchester United are set to make a move to sign Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil on a free once he is able to speak to other clubs from January, The Independent has learned.

Jose Mourinho and Mesut Ozil both joined Real Madrid in 2010 and worked well together with the Portuguese putting faith in the player who went on to be recognised as one of the finest playmakers in Europe.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

As good as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata have been, Mourinho is a huge fan of Ozil’s and would gladly snap him up on a free transfer. The two maintain a close relationship and the Portuguese even wrote the foreword for Ozil’s biography. It remains to be seen what this would mean for their plans to bring Antoine Griezmann in though.

JULIAN DRAXLER

Arsene Wenger is considering a swap deal with PSG in January, which would see Julian Draxler replace Alexis Sanches at Arsenal, according to the Daily Star.

And the French giants are believed to be tempted by the idea, even though Draxler only joined them in January.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

Sanchez at this point is guaranteed to leave Arsenal and Wenger would do well to bring in a replacement who boasts plenty of quality but also has scope for improvement. The Frenchman has been a fan of Draxler’s for years and the German’s stock has dropped significantly over the course of his squad role at PSG.

With Sanchez to use as a bargaining chip, this could be the time to land his man and avoid losing the Chilean for nothing in the summer.
