  • Man United bound? Thomas Meunier.

The transfer window may not open again until January 1 2018 but that hasn’t put an end to plenty of speculation throughout Europe.

Here, we take a look at three big stories dominating the headlines on Monday.

Will any of the following deals happen?

    THOMAS MEUNIER

Manchester United are set to make a £30 million move for PSG star Thomas Meunier, according to the Sunday Express.

The Belgian international enjoyed a solid 2016-17 campaign but has struggled for game-time since the arrival of Dani Alves to Parc des Princes during the summer.

The 26-year-old is said to be frustrated with a lack of minutes and feels like a second option under coach Unai Emery.

He has made six Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring three goals.

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Meunier would provide strong competition to Antonio Valencia, but the Ecuadorian is playing out of his skin this season, so it is unlikely he will be replaced at the heart of the Red Devils defence.

If the PSG wantaway decides to depart the French capital he will not be short of potential suitors, with Juventus a strong option, as the Italian giants have failed to replace Alves since he quit Turin last summer.

    JAVIER MASCHERANO

Javier Mascherano is set to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, according to Sport.

One of the clubs longest serving players, the 33-year-old has grown accustomed to a reduced role this season and has featured in just five of Barcelona’s ten La Liga matches.

If an MLS deal does come to fruition, it would bring down the curtain on a glittering career at the Camp Nou, which includes four La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys and two Champions League crowns.

    RATING: 7/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

The versatile Argentinean, who can play defence or midfield, has been replaced by Samuel Umtiti at centre-back and doesn’t want to finish his career sitting on the bench.

Although his age may be a concern to some MLS clubs, Atlanta United have emerged as a key option, as head coach Tata Martino managed Mascherano between 2013-16.

    MICHAEL CARRICK

West Brom, Aston Villa and Leicester are interested in securing the services of Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick in January, according to the Mirror.

Despite being made club captain over the summer, the 36-year-old has only made one Carabao Cup appearance this season.

The highly-respected star, who is set to return from injury this week, is desperate for more game time in the United engine room.

    RATING: 7/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

It seems like a frustrating end to life at Old Trafford for Carrick as the arrival of Nemanja Matic has seen the Serbian establish himself as the mainstay of the Red Devils midfield, with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini also favoured ahead of Carrick.

With three clubs battling it out for his services, perhaps it’s the right time for him to leave.
