    VIRGIL VAN DIJK

Liverpool have finally reached an agreement with Southampton for Virgil van Dijk, according to the Sunday World .

The Reds spent much of the summer trying to lure the star defender to Anfield, but the move failed to materialise.

Chelsea and Man City have also been interested in securing the Dutchman’s services, but Jurgen Klopp side’s are reportedly closest to getting the deal over the line – near to Southampton’s £70 million asking price.

    RATING: 7/10

    VERDICT

It’s not all that surprising to see Liverpool linked with the centre-half after shipping goals for fun recently but they face stiff competition for his signature from Chelsea.

The Reds have attempted to prize the 26-year-old away all summer and the hope from Anfield is that he will join the club despite the fiasco during the summer where the Saints accused Liverpool of an illegal approach.

Liverpool are confident that this deal will get over the line.

    MAROUANE FELLAINI

Marouane Fellaini is prepared to leave Manchester United as he refuses to sign a new deal, according to Express Sport .

The midfielder has reportedly rejected a new contract, and is set to leave after failing to hold down a starting place in the team.

With the World Cup fast approaching, the 30-year-old is being lured away by the potential of game-time – having started just four games this season.

Fenerbahce are interested in signing for the player, with a China-based club also wishing to acquire his services.

    RATING: 6/10

    VERDICT

Several United fans have wanted to see the back of Fellaini almost since his arrival. However, over the last few years, many have come to appreciate him for what he offers in terms of effectiveness and the dedication he shows to the team’s cause.

It is understood that Jose Mourinho wants the board to renew his contract at all costs, but the Belgian has wants to leave Old Trafford due to a lack of game-time.

The 30-year-old is also being drawn away by the potential of more game-time with the World Cup less than seven months away.
