  • Real Madrid are set to reward Keylor Navas with a new Bernabeu contract extension, despite speculation the Whites are set to sign Thibaut Courtois as their new No.1.

The Costa Rican World Cup star, who was a favourite under previous boss Zinedine Zidane, has yet to convince Julen Lopetegui he should be the club’s main man between the sticks moving forward.

Los Blancos have made no secret of the fact they wish to sign 26-year-old Chelsea shot-stopper Courtois, who is keen on a move back to the Spanish capital where he previously plied his trade with Atletico Madrid.

But, in case that big-money deal doesn’t materialize, Real are happy to extend Navas’ four-season stay at the club, according to La Nacion.

The 31-year-old’s current contract expires in 2020 and it is rumoured his deal will be extended by a further two years.

It remains to be seen whether Navas will be happy being Real’s back-up goalkeeper to Courtois, or seek regular first-team football elsewhere.
