  • James Rodriguez is being linked with a surprise club.

Colombia international James Rodriguez could be on his way back to Real Madrid this summer if latest reports in Germany are to be believed.

According to a report by German daily Kicker, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are unlikely to make Rodriguez’s loan move permanent.

The defending league champions have endured a shaky season under new coach Niko Kovac so far and currently lie in the fifth spot in the table after suffering three defeats in their 11 games so far.

The most recent of their three defeats came in the Der Klaasiker against Borussia Dortmund last weekend, leaving Kovac’s men seven points behind the league leaders.

Rodriguez had moved to Bayern in the summer of 2017 in a two-year loan deal with the Bundesliga club having the option of making the move permanent for a sum of €42 million.

Rodriguez has fallen out of favour at Bayern of late.

According to Kicker‘s report, Bayern are preparing for a massive overhaul of the squad in the summer with a € 200 million spending spree looking likely. The Colombian’s massive transfer fee and wages could prove to be a stumbling block in such a scenario.

Rodriquez’s equation with Kovac has been under the scanner with the midfielder not featuring in the side’s clashes against AEK in the Champions League and Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

According to a report in the Bild last week, Rodriquez was dropped to the bench for the Dortmund clash after he was late to arrive to the team’s meet-up before the clash.

To add insult to injury, the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner suffered a knee-injury recently which is expected to rule him out of action until January at least.
