The transfer window is well and truly open.

With the rumours growing in pace and volume during this ‘silly season’, it can be difficult and painstaking to separate the stories of some legitimacy from the rest of the white noise.

Fortunately, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to do it for you. Below, you’ll find some of the latest transfer news churned out of the rumour mill broken down and analysed for your benefit along with our calculated predictions.

    LUKA MODRIC

Inter look set to resume their pursuit of Real Madrid star Modric this month, according to Sport Mediaset.

Why it will happen: The 33-year-old has a desire for a new challenge and to join compatriots Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic and Sime Vrsaljko in the Italian capital.

Why it won’t happen: It is unlikely Florentino Perez will sanction a deal, unless the European champions can sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a potential replacement.

Verdict: The Nerazzurri have been pursuing the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner for some time. Next season could be the right time for the former Spurs man to move on from the Spanish capital after seven successful years.

    Rating – 6/10

    NICOLO BARELLA

Chelsea are eyeing a move for Cagliari midfielder Barella, according to the Daily Star.

Why it will happen: The Blues are looking for a replacement for Cesc Fabregas and feel Barella is a natural long-term successor to the Spaniard.

Why it won’t happen: If the 21-year-old is reluctant to leave Cagliari mid-season, then the Blues will prepare a bid for Leandro Paredes of Zenit St. Petersburg.

Verdict: The lure of playing in the Premier League will clearly appeal to Barella, but it is believed Napoli are in a better position to secure his signature at the end of the season.

    ISCO

Juventus are set to move for Real Madrid playmaker Isco, according to Calciomercato.

Why it will happen: The Spaniard has fallen out of favour under new boss Santiago Solari and is keen to move away from Real Madrid in search of game time.

Why it won’t happen: The Bianconeri have already agreed a deal to bring Aaron Ramsey to Turin from Arsenal this summer, which makes it unlikely they will move for Isco too.

Verdict: It is clear the 26-year-old is unhappy with his lack of minutes at the Bernabeu but expect him to stay until the end of the season before deciding on his next career move.

    Rating – 2/10

    RYAN BABEL

Besiktas stirker Ryan Babel is set for a Premier League return with relegation battlers Fulham, according to De Telegraaf.

Why it will happen: Cottagers boss Claudio Ranieri faces a hectic winter transfer window as he attempts to pull his side out of the relegation zone. Although Babel has struggled for form in recent years, he could add some experience to a struggling side.

Why it won’t happen: The only thing that could prevent the former Liverpool man from sealing a move to West London is his mammoth wage demands.

Verdict: Babel would enjoy the prospect of a Premier League move at the age of 32 but it’s up to Fulham to make it happen.

    Rating – 7/10
