Earlier this week, Kicker magazine reported that German giants Bayern Munich are trying to acquire the signature of Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.

Before the rumour mill could build on this, Bayern president Uli Hoeness himself confirmed the club’s interest in the youngster.

“We are looking into the player (Sane),” he told the Munich-based newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Before he traded his Schalke colours for that of City, Sane was linked with a move to Bayern. Now the Bundesliga champions have returned to retrieve the player who escaped their grasp in 2016.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports that although Pep Guardiola wants the player to stay, City want him out.

Besides, lack of game-time has rendered the German unhappy and he could leave in search of more minutes.

Hoeness is eager to kickstart what he calls “the biggest investment programme in our club’s history” and Sane could be the first name on that list.

With veterans such as Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben and Rafinha set to leave, Bayern are looking at a huge revamp over the summer.

They have already signed World Cup winning full-back pair Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Parvard from Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart for a combined price of €115 million. Sane could be their next big-money purchase.
