    Struggling to pick out the facts from the figures? Reality from the rubbish? Sense from the silly season? We’ve got you sorted in our daily dose of the Transfer Predictor, where we round up the latest rumours with an analytical spin.

    We sort through the most eye-catching transfer reports of the past 24 hours and give a balanced judgment on whether the move really will happen – and why.

    Today’s edition features potential signings for Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and Manchester City.

    JOAO FELIX

    RUMOUR: Benfica -> £106million -> Manchester City

    Manchester City are looking to bolster their strike force as they bid to retain the Premier League title with the signing of Joao Felix, the Sun reports.

    WHY IT WILL HAPPEN: Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen the side that won the league title by a point this season and sees the midfielder as a prime target. Although only 19, Felix has the class to be a star man at the Etihad Stadium for years to come.

    WHY IT WON’T HAPPEN: Manchester United, PSG and Barcelona are also linked to the Portuguese U21 international, meaning competition is fierce. Benfica are also, apparently, steadfast about his £106m buyout clause needed to be reached.

    PREDICTION: 3/10

    MARCOS ALONSO

    RUMOUR: Chelsea -> £50m -> Atletico Madrid

    Chelsea star Marcos Alonso is close to sealing a move to Atletico Madrid, the Daily Star claims.

    WHY IT WILL HAPPEN: Diego Simeone is seeking to replace Lucas Hernandez and Felipe Luis, who are both leaving the club in the summer. A move back to Spain after four years in England may also be appealing for the 28-year-old.

    WHY IT WON’T HAPPEN: Chelsea’s financial demands could prevent the transfer from going through. The Blues have the upper hand in negotiations as Alonso only signed a fresh five-year-deal back in October.

    PREDICTION: 7/10

    GIOVANI LO CELSO

    RUMOUR: Real Betis -> £62m -> Tottenham

    Tottenham’s protracted move for Giovani Lo Celso has taken another turn with Real Betis reported to be willing to agree on a £70million fee, the Daily Mirror says.

    WHY IT WILL HAPPEN: The Argentine is a wanted man at the moment. After being linked with Manchester City and Manchester United, Spurs are now understood to be leading the race to secure his signature. Lo Celso wants to work under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino and would add serious midfield creativity as the North London side attempt to compete strongly on both domestic and European fronts next season.

    WHY IT WON’T HAPPEN: The 23-year-old only joined Betis from PSG in October, and the La Liga side may not allow him to leave so soon, even though they are desperate for money after failing to qualify for Europe.

    PREDICTION: 6/10
