  • Atletico Madrid are set to break the club’s record transfer fee by paying Benfica star Joao Felix’s release clause.

In Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez, Diego Godin and potentially Rodri, Los Rojiblancos will see a huge chunk of the core of their team depart in the summer transfer window.

The rebuilding phase is imminent, with Felix leading the list of big names who could arrive at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Marca have reported that Atletico are willing to buy out the player’s contract at €120 million. By doing so, the Portuguese will become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

It’s worth noting that Griezmann’s sale, which will amount to just about the same fee, will fund the transfer. The Frenchman will then become the most expensive sale in Atletico’s history.

The Madrid side face competition from Manchester United in their pursuit of the 19-year-old. But it’s believed that they have the edge over the Premier League club because the player and his agent have chosen them.
