  • Fawzi staying at Al Ain

Al Ain full-back Mohammed Fawzi has moved swiftly to calm talk he is set for an imminent switch to fellow

Arabian Gulf League heavyweights Al Jazira.

Fawzi and team-mate Ibrahim Diaky have been linked in the Arabic press with a double transfer to the Pride of Abu Dhabi as they attempt to build on last term’s President’s Cup success.

But the former-mentioned 26-year-old UAE international took to his official Snapchat account yesterday to deny the move had already been agreed.

He posted: “All these things are not true. I’m still with Al Ain.”

Fawzi appeared in only three top-flight matches for last term’s runners-up after February 18 once his starting spot was lost to fellow Whites regular Mohamed Ahmed.

In total, the summer 2014 buy from Bani Yas made 24 appearances in all competitions during 2015/16. Jazira are trying to bolster their local options on the back of a mixed campaign in which they limped home seventh in the top flight and gained just one point in six AFC Champions League group games, but managed to win the UAE’s most prestigious cup.

A return for Diaky is yet to be ruled out. The midfielder scored 52 goals in 215 appearances for them from 2005-13, prior to his defection to the Garden City.

He has gone on to score 14 goals in 69 AGL appearances there, also lifting the 2014 President’s Cup, 2014/15 top-flight crown and 2015/16 Arabian Gulf Super Cup.

The Ivory Coast-born veteran would add invaluable experience to a youthful area of the Jazira roster, which includes talented prospects such as Salim Ali, Mohamed Jamal and Khalfan Mubarak.

The 34-year-old would also likely improve on his tally of just 11 topflight starts last term.
