  • Influence: The Real Madrid legend is a constant and inspiring presence.

It’s a new season at the Football Academy in Dubai and there are two fantastic programmes available for young budding footballers to sign up to.

Situated at Dubai Sports City, the Football Academy, currently has two coaching programmes to choose from – Spanish Soccer Schools (SSS) – for ages five to 16 – and Socatots – suitable for children aged six month to five-years-old.

Whatever programme you choose, both are highly-effective, well-organised and very successful.

For instance, more than 1,200 children have learned to play the Spanish way under the guidance of four-time La Liga title winner Michel Salgado and his highly-qualified team.

With the philosophy based on three Spanish values – unity, passion and skill, the children will soon learn and improve their football techniques. And with SSS proving to be very popular, players will be able to attend coaching sessions at Repton School in Dubai.

There’s still opportunity to sign up for the on-going term (until November 15), as well as terms two and three (November 23 to 21 February, and March 1 to May 16). At Dubai Sports City, the one-hour sessions, divided into four age groups – under-6, under-8 and under-10 – takes place between 16:30 to 19:30 Sunday to Wednesdays, while Fridays classes begin at 09:00 or 10:30.

Prices vary from Dh950 to Dh7,800 depending on how many terms and sessions per week you want your kids to be enrolled for. Included in the price is a football kit and participation in matches.

At Repton School in Dubai, the sessions take place on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 18:30 for ages six to 16. Prices range from Dh950 to Dh5,610.

And if you’re a parent looking to enrol your child for Socatots, then it’s a great opportunity for them, not just to having fun, but also providing a well-rounded platform for their physical, social and educational growth.

The programme aims to improve balance and co-ordination, developing cognitive skills, increasing self-confidence and demonstrating the importance of keeping fit.

The one-hour sessions take place at Dubai Sports City (Friday to Wednesdays), Emirates International School (Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00), and Blossom Nursery, Umm Sequeim (Mondays and Wednesdays 13:00 to 16:00).

The new term starts from September 14 with prices starting at Dh960 for its 12-week session.

Esam Sultan, Socatots coach, says there’s many positives for both programmes.

Sultan said: “ Parents should enrol their children into the SSS and Socatots programmes because Dubai Sports City is a unique environment for young athletes to begin or continue their development in football.

“With Michel Salgado as director at the Football Academy, parents are guaranteed that their child is receiving the right guidance they need to take the next step in their respective futures.

“This, along with state-of-the-art, FIFA-approved facilities, makes the Football Academy a unique location to have your kids hone their skills both on and off the pitch.”

Sultan advises parents to book early as spaces are getting filled quickly.
