Duplays has launched the latest edition of its seven-a-side football competition with places still available for teams who want to participate. And if you want to take advantage of the early bird price, then register today.
Titled ‘Duplays Football 7s’, the league competition will be held between January 11 and March 1 at GEMS American Academy, Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi. Each team will play two matches per week with a game lasting 25 minutes straight.
The early bird price offer, which ends today, is priced at Dh3,150 for a team of no more than 10 players. But if you miss that deal, then you can still enter a team but you will have to pay Dh3,500.
The league is aimed at intermediate-level players with attractive prizes for the winners and runners-up. Matches will be played between 19:30 and 21:30 on astro-turf pitches.
Salman Raisi, assistant operations manager at Duplays, which is the UAE’s largest sport and social club, said: “This league is designed for players who play football frequently. Some of the games are closely-matched and entertaining to watch and there’s not a lot of difference between the teams in previous editions of the league that we have held.
“And with football one of the most popular sports in the UAE, we get a lot of teams and players taking part in our football competitions in what is arguably our most popular sport at Duplays.
“While we expect the matches to be of the same standard for this edition, the winners of the league will not only be champions, but each player will receive medals and a dinner voucher. The runners-up will also get medals for their efforts throughout the league.”
He added: “Taking part and having fun are the two most important things we are trying to achieve. We want to play our role in allowing more people to take up sport and live a healthy lifestyle and every league we organise, the feedback has been positive with people saying they’ve enjoyed their time.”
Players must be at least 17 years old and each squad must comprise of no more than 10 players. Unlike the traditional 11-a-side format, there will be no offsides during the matches and sliding tackles are not permitted.
